This New Era Colonial is truly a quintessential marriage of modern with traditional, coastal with colonial. When its newest stewards sought to make it their own, the family of four wanted to preserve every bit of detailed woodwork and handsome charm, while making it more relaxed, liveable, and durable beyond their early child rearing years.
Considering the family’s utilitarian needs, we developed loads of clever concealed storage options to stow away toys, linens, the pantry, and all the bits and bobs of an active family. They wanted layered, inviting spaces, but without the clutter (less to pick up at the day’s end!). So using relaxed comfort as our North Star, we worked closely with them to breathe spaciousness into the home’s integral gathering points. Keeping things very clean and light, we intentionally grounded the home in calmness knowing their tornado of two will whip up fun from room to room. Favoring delicate elements over bold focal points, we looked to their love of nearby coastal terrain for a palette of light oak, gray washes that give a subtle Salt Box vibe, and soft beachy warm tones. With strong bones and a welcoming atmosphere, we gave this growing family a space that redefines East Coast style.
