River Residence

This gorgeous 1880’s Victorian home in North West Boston extends out onto a patio overlooking a scenic river, and is brimming with history and stories. The detail was impeccable, i.e. stunning windows enveloping the space, but the design was outdated. Luckily, our client held a deep respect for special pieces, and to our delight, insisted on repurposing cabinet hardware and existing millwork details with a past.

Having recently given the basement level a total gut and fresh design, we ventured upstairs to the entry, living room and master suite. We crafted a livable layout for the basement, complete with a kitchen, living area, an office space, master bedroom, bath, and entry, now serving as a one-bedroom apartment space for in-laws and grown children to visit.

We wanted a warm and familiar palette that connected with the home’s surroundings, so we used ivory, rich browns, and soft camel, marrying them with cool blues and greens. We optimized natural light, creating an airy and neutral space for the family enjoy.
