New Canaan Country Estate
When our client saw this quintessential Connecticut country estate, it was an immediate yes please. After spending years in New York City after a stint in California; they were ready for a slower pace of life with lots of space for their new family. The home and its two other buildings on the property had recently undergone a complete renovation. Careful efforts were taken to keep many original details while making it appealing to this modern- day young family.
Considering that much of the original architecture was thoughtfully maintained by the builder; we worked within this foundation to infuse the new home with what the client considered beautiful. They love the easygoing nature of California style. Its mixture of rustic, organic, neutral, we played with those concepts. They also needed function. The house would be a party spot for their burgeoning friends in their new hometown. Beginning the project in the living room; the client owns some original Frank Lloyd side chairs with interesting wood detailing. We used those as a jumping off point for texture and color direction. with rich honey and black toned woods, nubby wool fabrics and smooth black honed marbles. Using the clients love of neutrals, we loved layering in cool ivories and whites, contrasted blacks and charcoals all punctuated with shots of emerald greens found in upholstery and in big - leafed plantings. The result is a property with wonderful pedigree yet reimagined with an eclectic edge.
