This gorgeous 1880’s Victorian home in North West Boston extends out onto a patio overlooking a scenic river, and is brimming with history and stories. The detail was impeccable, i.e. stunning windows enveloping the space, but the design was outdated. Luckily, our client held a deep respect for special pieces, and to our delight, insisted on repurposing cabinet hardware and coat hooks with a past.
We covered the kitchen, entry, living room, study, master bedroom, stairs, bath, and a total gut and fresh design of the basement level. We crafted a livable layout for the basement, complete with a kitchen, living area, an office space, master bedroom, bath, and entry, now serving as a one-bedroom apartment space for in-laws and grown children to visit.
We wanted a warm and familiar palette that connected with the home’s surroundings, so we used ivory, rich browns, and a sunny yellow, marrying them with cool blues and greys. We optimized natural light, creating an airy and neutral space, a lovely, stark contrast to the stuffiness usually attributed to basements.
